Design Team Reveal for June!

Hi everyone! and welcome to a mini version of the Design Team Reveal for June. Raechelle and I are on vacation this month, but Debbie, Morag and Chris outdid themselves, so you won't be short on inspiration. We chose a "show us your favorite layout" theme, and here they are!

Debbie Gaydos

Debbie used the Doodlebug ZOOFARI line to make this adorable layout of her boys at the zoo. The blocking of the photos is super interesting and I love the placement of the Doodlebug braddies. So cute! Thanks for sharing Debbie, super job.

Chris Hertel

All I can say is YUM about this super layout designed by Chris. The computer work on the photos, and the way she placed them on the layout is just perfect. Love the way some overlap. Fun paper use too, using WRMK's Grandma's Kitchen paper line. The Jenni Bowlin bingo card is super cute too. Thanks for the inspiration Chris!

Morag Cutts

As usual Morag has hit the mark with her sweet and whimsical layout. She used the Cherry Jubilee line by Doodlebug for her awesome layout. Love the ribbon border, and the cute journaling and the fun use of the coordinating stickers. Love it Morag!

Hope you all love these layouts as much as I do, and we'll see you next month!

Purrfect Projects #13

With Summer officially here, this Purrfect Projects challenge is to create something with a sun or sunshine theme. This project must incorporate the shape of a sun or the word 'sunshine' or 'sun' on it, as well as using the colors yellow, orange and red (other colors are fine).

We hope you'll play along with us! :)

Here are some great ideas to help kick start your creativity:

Morag came up with this adorable CD case which will be used as a gift once she fills it with Summer songs:

Raechelle made this cheerful card:

Take care,
Raechelle and Morag :)

paper pleating, a perfect finishing touch.

Paper pleating (or folding) is used often to add a little bit of oomph to a layout or to add a nice finishing touch to a project. The best part is that it's simple and takes just a few extra moments to complete.

For this box project, I used paper pleating to add detail to the sides of the lid.

The first thing I did was cut 2 strips of 12" paper the width of the lip of the lid (which is about an inch). I then sanded the edges, because I wanted a bit of distressing.

I went on to start my folding. I simply started at one end and began folding small pieces using my right index finger under the paper strip and pushing up a small section toward the end of the strip and then using my left index finger to press a seam on top of the strip. I then moved down the strip in about 1/2" intervals and repeated until the strips were complete. The end result looked like this:

To make it easier to adhere to the lid, I added a single row of stitching down the center:

Once I had adhered it to the lid and it was dry, I gently fluffed out the edges a bit to add a little more dimension.

There is no wrong way to do this, just have fun and enjoy the end result!
Take care,

Purrrfect Project #12 - Bling it On!

We set a new project challenge every two weeks - something to inspire you to take your scrapping supplies off the page.

What girl can resist a bit of bling? Your challenge this week is to add a little sparkle to your projects. This can take the form metallic cardstock such as the one used by Vee, glitter or gems. Let your imagination run wild!

This week we have yet more gorgeous samples to tempt you with. I just love this Mardi Gras mask card. Vee had used both glittery and metallic cardstock as well as gems and silver ric rac. The card is about 8 x 10" and simply fabulous.

Joannie has created a perfect place gift box to hold a pair of earrings.

I have created a name plate for Lauren's door. I've used DCWV glittered cardstock to cover a chipboard crown.

The heart and swirls were glittered (rather messy but fun). The pin trinket and flower are Maya Road

I hope that we have inspired you to take your scrapping supplies and use them off the page.

We'd love to see your creations, so upload them to the AllyScraps Gallery and link back here. All new entries will be entered into our monthly prize draw!

Don't forget there is still time to get 20% off EVERYTHING! Just enter June11 during checkout

May Design Team Reveal!

While Dana is on vacation this month, I get the fun of sharing the Design Team's May Blog Reveal! For some fun this month, we decided to each choose one of the other DT member's challenges from our May 9th crop and complete it for the reveal!

First up is our fabulous May Guest Designer, Jana! Jana used Morag's challenge, which was to use 4 different manufacturers and customize something to make it your own. She used We R Memory Keepers, Sassafras Lass, My Mind's Eye and Jenni Bowlin. She customized the flower and butterfly accents by adding red Kaisercraft jewels. Don't they look great!

Morag choose Jana's SCRAP challenge (s=stitching, c=circle element, r=ribbon, a=the color aqua, and p=punches) as the inspiration for her page. Her paper line is We R Memory Keepers Tiffany - how gorgeous!

For Rae's great page, she took inspiration from a combination of the challenges! She used Morag's challenge with her chipboard title as her customized piece (she painted, heat embossed, and then added beads to it while it was still a bit tacky). She was also inspired by elements of Jana's and Dana's challenges, using a clean and fresh color palette, torn/distressed edges and the little piece of a journaling card along the side.

Chris used Rae's challenge, which was a countdown style challenge: use 5 of one thing, 4 of another, etc. Chris used 5 silk flowers, 4 different patterns, 3 buttons, 2 fonts and 1 deer for her page, along with the We R Memory Keepers Tiffany collection.

I used Dana's challenge, to choose 3 sources of inspiration and use them to create the layout. My three inspirations were:
1. The Scrap Within Reach “Cottage” line with it’s dandelion theme – perfect for these SWEET pictures of my little Tyler, who loves to bring me these pretty little “flowers” at every available opportunity!
2. Stitching: I don’t sew on my pages often enough! Every time I see it, like on this awesome page by Guest DT Jana, or this great page by forum member Tina, I think that I really should do it more often!
3. Die-cut “bracket” style paper: these shaped papers are so popular and I just love them! So I used my Pazzles and a print-and-cut technique to create my shaped journaling block in this fun style!

I know that we all enjoyed the inspiration provided by one another's challenges from the crop, and we hope you enjoyed them too! If there was a crop challenge that you didn't get a chance to complete (or that you just want to do again!) we would love to see what you come up!
